With Automotive Interiors Expo taking place next month, the Automotive Interiors World team selects its highlights from the packed InteriVision Forum program.
PaceDriven: A design and business model for the circular economy (Artur Mausbach, senior research fellow, Royal College of Art)
AIW: Sustainability has often been viewed as a constraint on creativity, but the industry has instead reframed it as an opportunity. By rethinking what creativity can mean for future sustainable vehicles, the RCA Hyundai Kia Innovation Laboratory has been exploring how to reimagine the car for the 21st century. This presentation will offer a valuable opportunity to see how materials, design, technology and innovation can converge to bring truly forward-thinking and sustainable automotive visions to life.
All-cellulose composites: Next-generation circular materials (Michael Ries, professor of soft matter physics, University of Leeds)
AIW: Materials have evolved, and will continue to evolve, as we move toward a more sustainable era. With this in mind, circularity is key to shaping what future materials will look like. Polymers have a long history, and this presentation will explore the most current and advanced forms of single-polymer composites, as well as the role of materials science in their further development.
Panel discussion: End of Life Vehicles – advancing circularity in interior systems (Artur Mausbach, senior research fellow, Royal College of Art; Alex Horisberger, senior design consultant, BASF SE; and Klaus Kirr, director, Porsche Consulting)
AIW: The business model of the future is based not only on sustainability, but on circularity – it’s not enough to source and use materials with an eye on reducing environmental impact, the industry needs to think about what happens to these systems at the end of a vehicle’s lifespan. This panel discussion will ask (and answer) some of the big questions – how to make circularity attractive, how to realize value in waste components, how to encourage reverse material loops, how to engage recycling technologies – and much more.
Panel discussion: CMF design in the era of the digital cabin – How can CMF design shape the soul of the digital cabin? (Burcin Kesercioglu, CMF designer and strategist, CMF Consultancy (Wonderful CMF), previously chief CMF designer at Lynk & Co; and Steve Stanforth, CMF design chief, Geely Technology Europe UK, Coventry Creative Centre)
AIW: The interior of a vehicle can be a crucially evocative part of the consumer experience. And as automotive interior technologies continue to evolve and transform at pace, the design process must balance factors such as authenticity, digital innovation and direct, tactile experience. This panel will explore this challenging balancing act, looking at elements of character creation, the ‘right’ amount of digital integration in the user experience, and the bridge between those digital user interfaces and materiality.
