New Bentley concept features merino wool, walnut veneer and aluminum

Bentley’s Torcal concept expands the company’s traditional use of leather and wood with new materials, finishes and textures. The approach combines sculpted, stitched, polished and hand-assembled surfaces to broaden the brand’s interior design palette while retaining its focus on craftsmanship.

The Torcal cabin introduces merino wool as an automotive interior material, addressing previous durability limitations that have restricted its use in vehicles. The material brings qualities such as softness and warmth while offering the durability required for automotive applications.

Bentley has partnered with Fox Brothers, a Somerset cloth maker that has been weaving fine wool fabrics since the 18th century, to create an entirely new material specifically for Torcal. The collaboration resulted in what the auto maker says is the world’s first 100% merino wool automotive fabric capable of meeting the exacting demands of a luxury vehicle. The wool flannel is the first automotive wool fabric to achieve 100% certification by the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), the globally recognized program managed by Textile Exchange.

Torcal also debuts a new ombre veneer. Created from sustainably sourced walnut off-cuts and craft (recycled) paper, the veneer is formed from up to 1,000 individually selected layers that are pressed together before being sliced to less than a millimeter thick. Designed to complement the geometry of the cabin, the material creates a seamless transition in tone across each surface. Four distinct walnut shades flow naturally from deep black through dark smoke and light smoke before revealing the richness of natural walnut.

Torcal also introduces Sunburst Aluminium by Mulliner, a technical finish inspired by the engine-turned aluminum dashboards of historic Bentley models. The precision-crafted surface combines traditional detailing with a contemporary aesthetic.

To accompany the introduction of merino wool, six colorways have been tailored specifically for the new material. Each palette combines complementary tones from the same color family to create a cohesive finish.
