Automotive Interiors Expo Europe 2026, held June 23-25 at Messe Stuttgart, Germany, cemented its reputation as the leading global event bringing together solution providers, industry professionals and expert speakers over three days dedicated to the future of the in-cabin experience. As part of Vehicle Tech Week Europe, the event united three trusted shows: Automotive Interiors Expo, Automotive Testing Expo and Autonomous Vehicle Tech Expo.

Exhibitors at Automotive Interiors Expo Europe represented the full spectrum of car interior innovation, with products found in vehicles from nearly every major manufacturer, including Ferrari, Maserati, McLaren, Porsche, GM, Volkswagen, Jaguar, BMW, Kia and Toyota.

In the automotive sector, individual components – such as vehicle seats – often need to be tested or demonstrated independent of the overall configuration to ensure functions such as adjustment ranges, massage, heating and ventilation. However, the control elements and power supply configured for the final vehicle are not available for this purpose.

How has the push for sustainability changed vehicle interior design? 

The automotive sector’s transition to electric vehicles brings with it a shift in focus. For combustion cars, the engine was the primary focus for reducing fuel emissions, whereas with EVs, the powertrain offers fewer additional emissions-reduction levers, so the real opportunities lie now particularly in the materials and their impact across the full lifecycle of the vehicle.

Swiss materials specialist Bcomp has announced that it provided performance composite components made from a bespoke weave of its AmpliTex technology for the recently unveiled BMW M Concept Neue Klasse. This close collaboration between BMW Group and Bcomp marks the successful industrialization of natural-fiber composites for exterior aesthetic applications in high-performance production cars.

The BMW M Concept Neue Klasse made its debut in early June the Le Mans 24 Hours. The materials partnership between Bcomp and BMW M was first announced last year.

The visible fiber composite roof of the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse showcases the bespoke weave and color developed specifically for and together with BMW M.

Zoox has launched the next iteration of its robotaxi as it prepares to move into large-scale production.

The company designed its robotaxi from scratch rather than adapting an existing vehicle for driverless use, meaning it could “design around riders, not drivers”, the company said. Feedback from half a million riders, alongside lessons from testing and early deployments, has informed ongoing refinements to the vehicle and shaped the development of this next generation.

Inside: comfort and calm 

The carriage-style cabin remains the same, but has been updated with changes to comfort, usability and interior finish.

Michael Duerr, head of interior design at Chery International, has won the inaugural Automotive Interiors Trailblazer award, which was presented at a ceremony at Vehicle Tech Week Europe 2026.

The Automotive Interiors Trailblazer award celebrates leaders redefining the in‑cabin experience by blending creativity, human‑centered design and technical innovation to create intuitive, intelligent and future‑focused mobility interiors. 

Chery’s Duerr was recognized for bringing the brand to Europe and establishing a cohesive interior design language across Omoda, Jaecoo and Chery – alongside achieving a UK market share of over 6% after launching from scratch in 2024.

The ceremony in Stuttgart comprised three sections: the Automotive Testing Technology International Awards, the ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle International Awards and the Vehicle Tech Week Trailblazer Awards.
