Volvo updates XC40, EX40 and EC40 with new interior and driver assist safety features.

Volvo has updated the XC40, EX40 and EC40 with changes ranging from exterior and interior design to infotainment, advanced driver assistance and active safety.

“By enhancing the design, technology and safety features of our 40 series cars, we’ve created the best versions of our 40 series yet,” said Akhil Krishnan, interim lead for the 30 and 40 series at Volvo Cars. “These already popular models are now set to continue being among our bestselling cars for years to come.”

Safety

Built on Volvo Cars’ safety knowledge from real-world research, the 40 series cars combine advanced safety technologies to help prevent collisions and protect people by choosing the safest action in the moment.

The 40 series cars feature new front and corner radars, a front camera, rear corner radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors and parking cameras.

The upgraded platform also introduces new and updated safety and driver-support functions. Door Opening Alert warns occupants of approaching traffic before a door is opened, helping to protect cyclists and other road users. Optional Pilot Assist now includes lane-change assist and has been refined to follow the road more smoothly. The optional 360° camera has also been upgraded with a 3D view to support parking and low-speed maneuvers.

Interior

The 40 series vehicles now feature 11.2in screens and the Google Gemini AI assistant.

The upgraded Scandinavian-inspired interior combines smart storage space and an updated wireless phone charger. It also includes new premium upholstery and decor options. XC40 customers can opt for Arianne Cardamom leather upholstery paired with Brown Ash wood decor elements across the interior. The car also features refined cabin illumination plus the option of Black Ash or aluminum decor.

Toward an all-electric future

The Volvo EX40 and EC40 offer up to 575km and 585km of electric range on a single charge, respectively. The XC40, EX40 and EC40 receive regular over-the-air updates, adding new software and features to vehicles already on the road.
