Mercedes-Benz updates automated parking assist feature

Mercedes-Benz updates automated parking assist feature

Mercedes-Benz’s active parking assist feature with Parktronic has been updated to improve automated maneuvering, with the system now able to park twice as fast at speeds of up to 4km/h.

The driver can start the process through the digital button on the screen, which shows a status bar for progress. During automated parking, the system mutes the Parktronic signal tones and, if the Mercedes-Benz is equipped with a 360° camera, the driver can also choose between different views.

These updates come standard with the E-Class, S-Class, EQS, EQS SUV, EQE, EQE SUV and all Maybach versions of these models with the parking package with reversing camera. The 360° camera is optionally available.

With the updated parking system, the vehicle continuously searches for parking spaces when moving at speeds below 35km/h and displays this on the driver display with a blue “P” symbol. The system can also detect very tight parking spaces with just 50cm of clearance at each end of the car and uses white markings or structures such as the curb or other parked vehicles for orientation.

When the car finds a space, a white arrow appears on the display next to the “P” symbol. After engaging reverse, the driver can select the parking space and start the automated process. For suitable parking spaces, the driver can also choose to park forwards as well as backwards.

During the automated process, if the sensors detect vehicles, cyclists or fast-walking pedestrians while reversing out of a parking space, an optical and audible warning is issued, and if the driver does not respond, the vehicle will perform an autonomous emergency brake.

Mercedes-Benz says the new update makes parking easier and comfortable in everyday situations.
