Volkswagen ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo interiors revealed

Ahead of the first vehicles being delivered to owners in Europe in autumn 2022, Volkswagen has unveiled the interiors of both the ID. Buzz Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) and the ID Buzz Cargo van.

For drivers of the ID. Buzz, a free-standing 13cm ID.Cockpit displays all relevant information, while in the middle of the dashboard is the Ready 2 Discover infotainment system with a 25cm touchscreen. An optional Discover Pro navigation system can be selected with a 30cm screen. Depending on the selected version, App-Connect, which includes App-Connect Wireless for smartphone integration and digital radio, is included as standard.

The ID. Buzz benefits from an online connectivity unit with a SIM card to enable access to online services and the vehicle functions of We Connect and We Connect Plus. Volkswagen states that in the future, owners will be able to buy and download additional apps and services via the infotainment system’s in-car shop. It will also be possible to use Apple Music and Spotify streaming services via the infotainment system, with or without a smartphone connected.

Both vehicles will leave the OEM’s factory with Volkswagen ID. software version 3.2 – the company’s latest system – which can be updated over the air (OTA).

The ID. Buzz MPV features separate driver and front seat passenger seats equipped with adjustable inside armrests, while the top specification versions also have the option of an outside armrest, in addition to electric adjustment and memory and massage functions. The back seats are a three-seater bench split 40:60 with backrests that can be folded down. It is also possible for the two parts of the bench seat to be moved lengthways by 14cm to create additional space.

The ID. Buzz Cargo features three seats as standard consisting of a driver’s seat and a double bench. A single seat for the front seat passengers can also be selected. A fixed partition separates the cargo space and can be optioned with a window and/or opening.

The five-seater vehicle is fitted with up to eight USB-C ports, while the ID. Buzz Cargo has up to five. All USB-C ports (apart from the 15W one in the rear-view mirror mount) use USB Power Delivery charging to deliver up to 45W. Available as an additional option is a 230V socket for powering larger electrical appliances, situated within the frame of the front passenger seat. The 230V connection can also be used with the vehicle’s motor turned off.

The ID. Buzz also comes with the interactive ID. Light, a narrow, illuminated strip that goes across the front of the windshield in the driver’s field of vision. The light provides drivers with intuitive information. Depending on the color, a signal on the right of the light strip indicates obstacles to the right front of the vehicle, or if the light glows completely red it means ‘Beware: brake’.

The ID. Buzz comes with 10-color ambient lighting as standard – Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles also offers a 30-color version. Areas lit up include the light strip in the instrument panel and the decorative strips and storage spaces in the doors.

Both versions also utilize a range of innovative materials and processes to ensure leather is not used anywhere inside the respective vehicles. The steering wheel rim is now made from a synthetic material that looks and feels like leather. Recycled products have also been used for the seat covers, floor coverings and for the roof liner of the ID. Buzz. One of the fabrics is made of so-called SEAQUAL yarn, 10% of the fibers of which are made using ocean plastics and 90% of PES (recycled PET bottles).

“No other vehicle manufacturer has a comparable all-electric MPV and van duo in their portfolio,” said Carsten Intra, CEO of the board of management, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Brand. “The avant-garde technology and design concept of the ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo are globally unique.”

“The ID. Buzz appeals to all sorts of different customers – families, people who need lots of space for their hobby, plus business owners and the manual trades,” said Thomas Schäfer, Volkswagen AG Board of Management member and head of the high-volume brand group. “People opting for the ID. Buzz will be just as likely coming across from an SUV or the van world as Bus fans who want to go electric. This model is therefore of exceptional importance for Volkswagen and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.”
