Volvo to update cars with new infotainment system

Volvo has announced two main tech upgrades for the XC40, EX40, EC40, V60 and V90 models. The Swedish brand is introducing the new-generation user experience to the whole line-up, as well as the ultra-fast Snapdragon Cockpit Platform from Qualcomm Technologies.

EX30, EX40 and EC40 models in Europe will also get the Plug & Charge service, for an even smoother public charging process. The new-generation user experience is called Volvo Car UX, and is already available in the EX30, EX90 and new XC90. It’s designed to be a safe and enjoyable way to interact with the car’s infotainment screen, with several Google services built in.

There are updates to apps and maps, and a contextual bar that changes what you see according to the situation and displays your recently used apps. The driver display has also been updated with a larger and clearer navigation view.

Starting this year, all models mentioned will come equipped with the new Volvo Car UX. Later in 2025, around 2.5 million customers around the globe will get an upgrade.

“By introducing our new-generation Volvo Car UX across our line-up, we’re working toward the aim that every Volvo model – regardless of platform and powertrain – should offer a similar user experience, providing our customers with more choices,” said Erik Severinson, chief product and strategy officer at Volvo Cars.

The next-generation Snapdragon Cockpit Platform makes the existing Google Android Auto-based infotainment system much faster and much more responsive. Volvo says the upgraded infotainment system in these models will be more than twice as fast as the outgoing system, with graphics generation that is up to 10 times faster. The UK-specific product offering will be confirmed later.
