As global automotive regulations such as UN R155, R156, and ISO 24089 on cybersecurity and software updates gain importance, the eSync Alliance has added VicOne as its newest member.
The eSync Alliance, known for its standardized and secure over-the-air update technology for vehicles, gains additional cybersecurity expertise through VicOne. VicOne provides advanced cybersecurity solutions tailored for the automotive industry and collaborates with a wide network of partners. Its solutions are trusted by OEMs and suppliers to help protect vehicles, drivers and sensitive data from evolving threats.
This partnership supports continued industry alignment on security standards and helps manufacturers meet regulatory requirements through standardized software update practices.
“As vehicles continue to evolve into sophisticated software platforms, industry standardization around secure OTA updates remains a priority. VicOne’s membership adds valuable automotive cybersecurity expertise to our alliance as we collectively develop standards that help the industry address both security challenges and regulatory requirements. Their participation enhances our ongoing efforts to establish best practices for secure software updates across the automotive ecosystem,” said Mike Gardner, executive director of the eSync Alliance.
VicOne brings automotive threat intelligence and security solutions that will support the eSync Alliance’s secure bidirectional data pipeline between the cloud and in-vehicle electronic systems.
The eSync Alliance’s standardized approach to over-the-air updates provides a framework that helps auto makers and suppliers meet the requirements of regulations such as UN R155 and R156. As a member, VicOne will contribute its specialized cybersecurity expertise to strengthen these industry standards and support the development of secure, compliant solutions.
William Dalton, VP and MD of VicOne North America and Europe, said, “Joining the eSync Alliance aligns with our mission to secure the vehicles of tomorrow. The industry’s shift toward software-defined vehicles benefits from strong standards for secure OTA updates. By participating in the eSync Alliance, we can contribute our cybersecurity expertise to help shape standards that enable manufacturers to build vehicles that remain secure throughout their entire lifecycle while meeting regulatory requirements.”
With regulations such as UN R155 (Cybersecurity Management), R156 (Software Update Management), and ISO 24089 (Software Update Engineering) now influencing requirements in key markets, the automotive industry is increasingly adopting standardized approaches to meet compliance. These regulations require manufacturers to implement strong cybersecurity measures and secure software update processes throughout a vehicle’s lifecycle.
As a member of the eSync Alliance, VicOne will share its cybersecurity expertise to help shape industry standards for OTA update frameworks. This collaboration supports compliance with UN R155 and R156 while encouraging broader industry alignment on secure and effective software update practices.
Gardner added, “This membership represents an important addition to our automotive ecosystem. The knowledge sharing between cybersecurity experts and automotive technology specialists will elevate cybersecurity awareness across the industry and help develop future-ready standards that anticipate evolving cyberthreats and regulatory landscapes.”
