Smart Eye secures orders from Korean auto manufacturer for combined interior sensing technology

Driver monitoring system specialist Smart Eye has secured a new order from a major Korean car manufacturer for its Automotive Interior Sensing AI technology. This will be the first time it provides both DMS and cabin monitoring system (CMS) technology for new car models by a major auto manufacturer. The order is estimated to generate revenue of Skr 175m (US$16.8m) based on projected product lifecycles.

Automotive interior sensing (the combination of driver monitoring and cabin monitoring software) is “the next step in the evolution of in-cabin sensing technologies”, DMS says. Its Automotive Interior Sensing AI, which covers the entire cabin and all occupants, enables car manufacturers to introduce new features aimed at enhancing safety and comfort and incorporates components from Affectiva, pioneers in emotion AI and a part of the Smart Eye group since 2021.

The Korean car manufacturer, which has previously used Smart Eye’s DMS technology in several car models, will incorporate the Automotive Interior Sensing AI into four new car models slated for production between late 2025 and the first half of 2026.

”Industry demand for interior sensing technology is growing fast, and this deal puts Smart Eye in pole position in this new market,” said Martin Krantz, CEO and founder of Smart Eye.

“Already in 2021, Smart Eye’s acquisition of Affectiva and the merger of our two leading technologies positioned us as a leading developer of advanced interior sensing AI. This new order, with start of production in 2025, means that some of the first car models on the road with cabin monitoring will run on combined Smart Eye and Affectiva software.”
