ID. 2all concept unveiled by Volkswagen

Volkswagen has premiered the ID. 2all concept, an all-electric vehicle that the OEM aims to launch by 2026. Based on the company’s enhanced MEB Entry platform, the ID. 2all concept benefits from 226ps, 450km of range and a minimalistic interior.

The main focal point of the vehicle’s cabin is a 12.9in touch display which works as the infotainment system and has a new menu structure. Situated below is a new separate air conditioning control panel and in the middle of this is a small thumbwheel to adjust the volume of the infotainment system.

Under this are two large inductive charging interfaces for smartphones, which are magnetically locked in position. Several other vehicle functions can be changed or personalized using the menu control in the center console, such as being able to alter the look of the digital instruments.

For the driver, a new multifunction steering wheel features with only two thumbwheels on the left and right and two buttons each for a simplistic and easy-to-use design. Important information is delivered to the driver via a 10.9in digital cockpit and a head-up display.

USB-C (45W) interfaces are available for charging smartphones, and magnetic holders with inductive charging functions feature in the backrests of the front seats. Larger devices can be powered or charged using a 230V socket.

To ensure the concept vehicle is flexible and offers maximum space efficiency, Volkswagen has included a fold-down front passenger seat backrest. This provides a continuous load area which is 2.20m-long when folded down in combination with the 40:60 split rear seat backrest and luggage compartment. The luggage compartment – which has a capacity of 440L – features a rectangular stowage box underneath.

Increasing space within the ID. 2all is a 50L stowage area under the rear seat. This was designed for the vehicle’s charging cable but there is additional space in the lockable compartment to enable the charging of laptops and tablets.

“The ID. 2all shows where we want to take the brand: close to the customer, top technologies and a fantastic design,” said Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars. “We are implementing the transformation at pace to bring electric mobility to the masses.”

Andreas Mindt, head of design at Volkswagen Passenger Cars, added, “The ID. 2all gives a preview of the new design language of Volkswagen, which is based on the three pillars of stability, likeability and excitement.”

Volkswagen plans to present the production version of the ID. 2all for the European market in 2025.
