Boris Mergell has been appointed head of the User Experience (UX) business area at Continental Automotive, effective September 1, 2023.
In his new position, Mergell (above) will accelerate the development of next-generation display solutions, head-up displays and UX assets in the form of software functions for engaging user experiences for future mobility solutions. Mergell will also become a member of Continental’s automotive board.
Once he has assumed the position, Mergell will report directly to former UX head Philipp von Hirschheydt, who is now an executive board member for the automotive group sector.
From 2022 to 2023, von Hirschheydt was head of the UX business area and has continued with his responsibilities since taking on the role of automotive chairman.
Mergell has spent 20 years at Continental and held positions in research and in product and material development for passenger and light and heavy truck tires, as well as being senior vice president of research and development for tires.
“I have known Boris Mergell for many years and I am convinced that as a very experienced Continental manager he will continue the success of the User Experience business area and drive forward the technology leadership in this growth area,” said Philipp von Hirschheydt, head of the Continental group sector automotive.
“User experience will continue to be a decisive factor in the purchase decision of a vehicle. We are already offering exciting solutions and innovations such as the Pillar-to-Pillar and the hidden In2visible Display that meet market needs.”
