SemiDrive Technology has launched a new infotainment hardware platform, which is in the process of being pre-certified as Android Automotive OS (AAOS) xTS compliant.
The X9 hardware platform is undergoing the GAS pre-certification process, overseen by Google’s 3PL partner, P3 Digital Services.
P3’s accreditation means that it oversees and executes rigorous testing and certification on Google’s behalf to ensure that Android Automotive OS-based infotainment systems meet the highest standards of quality and dependability.
“We expect to very soon bring our X9 platform to market as a GAS pre-certified offering to support OEMs worldwide to achieve their business goals, and we thank P3 for its deep Android Automotive expertise that enabled this to happen,” commented Matt Sun, CTO, SemiDrive Technology.
“We’re delighted also to play a role in helping car makers bring new AAOS-powered services to a wider market, and for more consumers to reap the many benefits of Android Automotive in their daily drives,” he added.
Android Automotive OS is an infotainment platform built into vehicles by manufacturers. Drivers can enjoy a user-centric and intuitive IVI interface specifically designed for the vehicle screen. In order to release an IVI system with Google apps and services in a vehicle, OEMs must meet certain compatibility and quality standards and acquire the necessary certifications from Google. There is a comprehensive framework for the certification of Google’s authorized OEM partners.
Using pre-certified hardware enables auto makers to integrate proven platforms more quickly and cost-effectively, thanks to established interoperability. It also eliminates technology risk, as pre-deployment testing has already confirmed the system’s capability, resilience and high performance. As a result of accelerated deployment, OEMs can fast-track new products, services and features.
SemiDrive X9
At the heart of the SemiDrive X9 platform is a high-power computing (HPC) cockpit domain controller (CDC), a modern computer that simultaneously manages multiple functionality domains within the automotive sphere. X9 brings together control for instrument cluster, infotainment as well as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) technologies. The X9 delivers these features through a tightly integrated system running on a unified hardware platform.
X9 was created using open standards-based technology, enabling OEMs to make system adaptations at any time during a product’s lifecycle, so that car makers can stay in control of the system and can roll out new features and other innovations rapidly and economically.
Sparq OS
The X9 platform integrates with Sparq OS, P3’s in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) solution built on Android Automotive OS. This approach helps vehicle manufacturers who have chosen SemiDrive X9 hardware combined with Sparq OS to deploy a fully integrated IVI platform as a pre-certified, end-to-end solution more quickly.
“Android Automotive OS is rapidly transforming the automotive industry, yielding a multiplicity of benefits for OEMs and the customers they support; it is extremely gratifying for all of us at P3 that we are helping to bring truly user-centric AAOS automotive technology enriched with flexibility and choice to more and more people around the world,” said Marius Mailat, CTO and managing director of P3 Digital Services.
