With the world premiere of the GLC with EQ Technology, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its first series production model embodying Sensual Purity, in what the company says is the next phase of the brand’s design language. The exterior of the electric GLC features a redesigned grille, and the interior blends digital technology, prioritizing a flowing design concept.
A floating MBUX Hyperscreen stretches from pillar to pillar. Measuring 99.3cm, it is the largest display fitted into a Mercedes-Benz, and has high-resolution matrix backlight technology with over 1,000 individual LEDs. It also features intelligent zone dimming, which allows for the simultaneous adjustment of two display areas via sliders.
A single, sweeping trim element visually unites the two sections into one sculptural surface, accentuated by ambient lighting along its lower edge. Depending on the options selected, the console integrates up to two trays for inductive and rapid smartphone charging, followed by a hard‑key control strip (including hazard warning button). The cupholders are separated for usability, and galvanized vents have been designed for what Mercedes describes as a cool, refined tech aesthetic. Climate adjustments briefly change the color of the ambient lighting and vent illumination to confirm selections. Door panels are uncluttered and feature striking metallic speaker grilles and trim; the design of the leather seating is equally clean and minimalistic.
High-resolution atmospheric ambient styles can be selected as background motifs. They offer a wide range of moods – from calm to intense, cool to warm, and technical to emotional. The coloring of the instrument cluster, control elements and ambient lighting is coordinated with these emotional motifs. The communication between the physical and digital is enabled by the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS).
