The German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) has approved the use of Ford’s BlueCruise technology in Germany. The ADAS enables drivers to benefit from hands-off, eyes-on automated driving on certain federal motorways – known as Blue Zones – although they must continue to pay attention to the current traffic situation.
Ford BlueCruise allows drivers to relax while an infrared camera mounted behind the steering wheel ensures that they still observe traffic and the surrounding environment.
“We are very pleased to be able to offer this innovative technology to our customers in Germany, having already been the first manufacturer in Europe with a system of this kind in the UK in April,” explained Martin Sander, managing director of Ford Model e Europe. “Ford BlueCruise takes the driver to a whole new level of comfort: it can greatly simplify strenuous journeys on motorways by supporting the driver in an intelligent, tried-and-tested and, above all, safe way – for a much more relaxed journey to their destination.”
