Vishay Intertechnology has introduced a tricolor LED that provides luminous intensity to 2,800mcd at 20mA for automotive interior lighting, RGB displays and backlighting. Featuring separate anode and cathode connections for the red, green and blue LED chips inside a 3.5mm x 2.8mm x 1.4 mm PLCC-6 surface-mount package, the automotive grade VLMRGB6122 enables individual control of each chip, enabling the reproduction of any color within the gamut triangle of the CIE 1931 color space through color mixing.
With a wide color range, the LED is suited for ambient lighting, switch illumination, status indicators, as well as dashboard signal and symbol illumination.
The LED is also suitable for large-format, full-color message and video display boards, backlighting in consumer devices and various accent and decorative lighting applications.
It incorporates advanced AllnGaP and InGaN technologies, offering 70% greater brightness than previous-generation models while featuring a package that is 22% thinner than competing products.
The VLMRGB6122 LED has an extended operating temperature range of -40 °C to +110 °C, which is 25 °C higher than standard solutions, and features Class B1 corrosion robustness. It is AEC-Q102 qualified, has a Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) of 3 and withstands ESD voltages up to 2 kV (red) and 8 kV (blue and green) per JESD22-A114-B standards.
The device is RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, Vishay Green, compatible with IR reflow soldering and categorized by reel for luminous intensity, color and forward voltage.
