Adient has announced its latest innovation, ModuTec, a modular seat design solution that aims to redefine how vehicle seats are manufactured.
The modular seat design solution intends to simplify the seat build process and enable higher levels of automation. ModuTec was developed after in-depth analysis of the needs of auto makers, manufacturing locations and consumers.
With the ModuTec assembly process, the build of the seat module happens offline. It is then sequenced into the main JIT line, reducing assembly time from minutes to seconds, enabling higher efficiency, lower costs and automation.

The modular approach streamlines production by improving assembly efficiency, simplifying workflows and enabling greater automation while reducing floor space requirements. This approach also supports improved seat comfort, better component integration, enhanced craftsmanship and warranty outcomes, as well as improved serviceability, including upgrades at the dealer level.
“With ModuTec, Adient introduces a modular seating approach that significantly improves assembly efficiency while driving overall cost optimization,” said Pierre Alain Caillaut, Adient’s vice president of engineering EMEA. “By standardizing interfaces and clearly structuring individual assembly steps, ModuTec creates a scalable, automation‑ready manufacturing concept that reduces process complexity and can integrate OEM‑specific features in a controlled and cost‑effective way.”
