Cabot launches Replasblak universal circular black masterbatches

American specialty chemicals and performance materials company Cabot Corporation has introduced its new Replasblak universal circular black masterbatches, featuring certified sustainable materials.

The introduction expands the Replasblak product family with ISCC Plus-certified content.

The solution is suitable for compounding as well as direct injection molding and sheet extrusion applications in the automotive industry.

Automotive plastic compounders and converters are increasingly seeking third-party certified black masterbatch products that use recycled feedstocks and circular value chains in their manufacturing processes.

The new line includes two types of masterbatches: one containing 45% recycled content and another with 20% recycled content.

The new masterbatches are made from mechanically recycled polymer, offering a versatile solution for coloring polyolefins and various engineering plastics. The two new products, Replasblak reUN5285 and Replasblak reUN5290, are suitable for automotive applications such as interiors, exterior parts and under-the-hood components.

The Replasblak masterbatches are the first in the industry to feature International Sustainability & Carbon Certification Plus-certified content. These products are powered by Cabot’s Evolve Sustainable Solutions technology platform, and enable Cabot to deliver “the high-performance, quality and reliability that the plastics industry requires at scale for certified circular solutions”, the company said.

“Building upon our pioneering role as the first global black masterbatch manufacturer to offer a universal grade, we are excited to expand our universal black masterbatch portfolio with our new Replasblak circular masterbatches featuring ISCC Plus-certified content,” said Jeff Zhu, executive vice president and president, Carbon & Silica Technologies, Battery Materials and Asia-Pacific Region, Cabot.

Both grades have high gloss and high jetness pigmentation for superior color performance and mechanical properties, comparable to standard universal black masterbatches. Cabot says these features make the solutions suitable for applications within the automotive segment, providing material management efficiency through the use of a single masterbatch at a low addition rate.

Zhu said, “By aligning with third-party certifications like ISCC Plus, our customers have the validation they need to ensure the integrity and performance of our global supply chain as they progress toward their sustainability targets and ambitions.”
