Pininfarina’s €4.4m B95 hyper Barchetta mixes classic race car with futuristic design

Automobili Pininfarina has unveiled the next chapter in its extensive history with its first-ever coach-built vehicle, the all-electric B95 hyper Barchetta. Ten vehicles will be built, with design carried out by the Automobili Pininfarina Design team in Cambiano, Italy, and construction undertaken by Pininfarina.

Drawing on previous design aesthetics, Pininfarina sought to mix and contrast classic race car features with futuristic design elements. These include a concept-car-inspired dashboard that appears from the driver’s point of view to merge with the exterior. When combined with the sculptural carbon-fiber dashboard, a floating wing effect is created. Sustainable, luxury tan leather is used to upholster the dashboard, which is finished with bespoke embossing details to contrast with brushed black aluminum anodized finishes used elsewhere in the cabin.

In a claimed world’s first, the B95 is equipped with electronically adjustable aero screens, consisting of two separate polycarbonate screens that can operate independently using aluminum supports.

To enhance comfort and protection for occupants, Pininfarina has chosen wrap-around seats finished once again in sustainable tan leather. The seats feature a two-part design, with aluminum inserts inspired by those found within the company’s PURA Vision vehicle. The headrests – with electro-welded Pininfarina logos – are upholstered in the Pied de Poule houndstooth luxury textile. Black and tan contrast stitching features on the seats, inside of the doors and on the dashboard.

Pininfarina states that there will be unlimited and bespoke options for the B95, ensuring each is unique.

“The Automobili Pininfarina B95 could have been created simply as an all-electric hyper Barchetta. However, we wanted to make it so much more than that,” explained Andrea Crespi, chief technical officer at Automobili Pininfarina. “We’ve selected the latest technology to make it a vehicle people desire to own, as well as a thrilling place to be. The application of technology to create our adjustable aero screens is inspired by two-wheel motor racing – ensuring this is a pioneering road car. This patented new technology enables the pure thrill of open-top driving, yet in comfort even at the high speed that the B95 is capable of reaching.”
