Bowers & Wilkins partners with Aston Martin for DB12 Super Tourer sound system

The DB12 will be the first Aston Martin to offer the new Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System, which integrates a 15-speaker, double amplified 1,170W surround sound system into the Super Tourer’s cabin.

During development of the system, Aston Martin and Bowers & Wilkins engineers worked together to ensure the location, direction and symmetry of the speakers deliver a balanced listening experience. The 15-speaker system is supported by a 14-channel amplifier and advanced sound processing technology.

Bowers & Wilkins Nautilus Aluminum Double Dome tweeters are located in the DB12’s dashboard, doors and behind the B-pillar, complete with spiraling diffusion channels to soak up reflected sound from the rear of each tweeter drive unit. Resonances have also been reduced to a minimum to provide a high-quality listening experience. Positioned near to the tweeters are 100mm Continuum mid-range speakers which benefit from a woven composite construction to absorb unwanted resonance for a cleaner midrange sound.

The DB12’s cabin also features Bowers & Wilkins’ Tweeter-on-Top technology which separates the tweeter from the rest of the cabinet to reduce coloration and acoustic reflection from the windshield to ensure sound is directed at occupants for enhanced clarity. A total of three tweeters are located on the vehicle’s dashboard.

“In this new dawn of our next generation sports cars, precisely crafted couture-level interiors are crucial to the delivery of a totally immersive, emotional, human experience,” said Marek Reichman, executive vice president and chief creative officer, Aston Martin.

“The pure sound of our engines alone already delivers visceral emotions and sensations. And now, with the addition of truly perforating sound being delivered so clearly through the newly developed audio system, we’ve harmonized our interior designs with new innovation and tech, so our drivers feel the energy, feel the calm, feel the luxury, all at once.

“Bowers and Wilkins has delivered a system that both meets these design ambitions and ensures that it looks as striking as it sounds. Drivers may wield it as they wish to create their own perfect experience.”
