Grammer supplies BuzzBox for new Volkswagen ID Buzz

Building on a long-standing development and production partnership, Volkswagen and Grammer have worked together to produce a new iteration of a center console, called the BuzzBox.

The optional ID BuzzBox enables owners of the ID Buzz to configure the interior space of the vehicle to meet their requirements. The large storage box can be opened at the touch of a button and positioned anywhere within the vehicle using an innovative locking system which fixes the crash-proof box to the vehicle’s flat floor. The system also enables the box to be removed easily from the vehicle if no longer required.

The BuzzBox benefits from a handle mechanism which has been designed for easy operation, and with the suitable seat configuration, the box can be placed into the passenger compartment or taken out of the vehicle during break periods.

Inside the BuzzBox is a large storage compartment capable of storing a smartphone, keys, glasses and additional objects. Two removeable components can be used to change the size of the separate compartments. One of the removeable elements also doubles up as an ice scraper, while the other features an integrated bottle opener.

The lower part of the storage box benefits from a drawer and a swivel compartment which can store a large bottle. The cargo version of the ID Buzz features a BuzzBox with an open, deep compartment at the top for documents, folders or a snack. A swivel compartment also features at the bottom.

Grammer developed the storage box using a lightweight construction, ensuring an unloaded weight of just 6kg. Imitation chrome paint has been used on the exterior to improve the box’s sustainability credentials.

“We were only recently able to implement a sliding, multifunctional center table in the new VW Multivan,” explained Jürgen Gerl, president, automotive division, Grammer. “With the freestanding and removable BuzzBox available for the ID Buzz, we have finally arrived in the future of electromobility.”
