what3words navigation software integrated into Lynk & Co’s European fleet

A newly formed partnership between vehicle OEM Lynk & Co and location technology specialist what3words will see the latter’s navigation software being integrated into Lynk’s European fleet.

The OEM’s in-car navigation system will now enable drivers to navigate precisely to their desired destination by using a unique combination of three words. The what3words location technology works by dividing the entire world into 57 trillion, 3m squares – each identified with a unique combination of three words. Drivers can enter or speak the three words of their chosen location to navigate to the exact 3m square.

The what3words navigation system has been developed to work entirely offline if signal is poor, and is currently available in 54 languages.

The partnership between what3words and Lynk & Co comes before the Chinese-Swedish automotive brand (owned by Geely Automobile Holdings) opens a London, UK-based site in early 2024.

“We see a future where people are moving seamlessly between mobility solutions. This smooth move requires a digital-first approach to addressing,” commented David Green, chief technology officer at Lynk & Co. “Our collaboration with what3words is heading in exactly this direction; inputting incredibly accurate locations in a simple way opens an entirely new world of experiences for our members. For this reason, we will further expand our cooperation with what3words in the future and develop new fields of application.”

“The disruptive model that Lynk & Co is offering will switch up the automotive industry,” said Chris Sheldrick, co-founder and CEO of what3words. “As a generation, we are far more connected and mobile than ever before, and so a company that is built on these inherent values will speak to a young, digital generation. By adopting what3words, Lynk & Co will create a new way for users to effortlessly explore some of the most exciting cities in the world.”
