Toyota has revealed the latest version of the Toyota Audio Multimedia system, due to debut in the 2026 RAV4 compact SUV before rolling out to future models in the Toyota line-up.
Connectivity
The Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) R&D and connected technologies team collaborated with Toyota Connected North America (TCNA) designers and software engineers to develop an enhanced audio multimedia system. Working with Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) and Woven by Toyota, they integrated over-the-air updates to continually improve the system and enhance the ownership experience.
“The teams behind our new Toyota Audio Multimedia system have worked together to build something we are proud to bring to the RAV4 this year,” said Brian Inouye, chief engineer at TMNA. “The enhancements we’ve made are driven by both function and performance at their core, and we are excited for our customers to enjoy an in-cabin experience like never before.”
Tech forward
Toyota’s new multimedia system integrates 5G connectivity powered by AT&T into its vehicles for the first time, expanding network coverage across North America with faster speeds and additional features.
The system runs on an Automotive Grade Linux platform with open-source software, and incorporates Woven by Toyota’s Arene software development kit.
Seamless UX
According to the company, the latest Toyota Audio Multimedia system offers crisp graphics and intuitive icons on the 2026 RAV4’s standard 10.5-inch or available 12.9-inch touchscreen. Enhanced on-device computing power reportedly improves touchscreen response times.
The interface features a customizable home screen where users can arrange widgets for navigation, drive mode, audio, connected devices and weather.
A quick control menu has been added, accessible from the upper right corner of the touchscreen, which provides fast access to frequently used settings. Users can connect to Bluetooth, adjust screen brightness, switch between light and dark mode, call roadside assistance and toggle advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features on or off.
Toyota Audio Multimedia supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also features a Toyota-developed voice assistant with faster response times, enabled by the embedded on-device solution.
The system also introduces an EV domain for plug-in hybrid models such as the 2026 RAV4 GR Sport PHEV. Accessible from the head unit, it enables drivers to manage charging schedules, set charge limits and control external power supply.
