A new low-gloss PC/ABS grade has been introduced by Elix Polymers. The Elix PC/ABS GR 5125 has been specifically developed to meet the automotive industry’s growing demand for materials that combine “sophisticated aesthetics, reliable performance and enhanced sustainability”, the materials specialist said.

Vehicle interiors are becoming increasingly important as automotive manufacturers seek to create premium user experiences through advanced design, comfort and material selection. One of the most notable trends is the growing preference for low-gloss and matte surfaces, which provide a modern appearance while reducing unwanted reflections and fingerprints. To address these evolving market requirements, Elix Polymers has developed GR 5125, a material that delivers outstanding visual quality while maintaining the technical properties required for demanding automotive applications.

The new grade stands out for its low-gloss matte finish, enabling designers and manufacturers to create elegant interior surfaces with a refined appearance. Unlike many conventional low-gloss materials, Elix PC/ABS GR 5125 achieves significant gloss reduction without compromising mechanical performance, processability or thermal resistance.

Designed for auto interiors, the material combines impact resistance, dimensional stability and thermal performance with weatherability, low VOC emissions and low odor. These properties support requirements for interior air quality, durability and passenger comfort.

The new grade is ideally suited for a wide range of interior applications, including instrument panels, center consoles, decorative trim parts, door panels and ventilation grilles.

In line with Elix Polymers’ commitment to circularity and responsible innovation, the new material is also available within the company’s E-Loop portfolio, incorporating recycled content while maintaining the demanding quality, aesthetic and performance standards required by the automotive industry. This enables customers to support their sustainability and carbon reduction goals without compromising on design freedom, durability or processability.
